How to Use Snapshot in the Insta360 App

When shooting in 360°, you're able to capture even more magical moments than usual. Displaying them, however, can be a challenge. Few platforms cater to 360° viewing, so the best way to currently share your highlights is by converting them to photos in a traditional, flat format.

Grabbing these from a 360° video can be done ad hoc with screenshot modes on your phone or computer, but this often produces low-quality imagery—and that's where Snapshot comes in! With this feature, you can reframe your shots from a variety of angles and preserve them as a photo in crisp high definition.

How to Set up Your Shot

Point-and-shoot is how everybody thinks of using traditional cameras. With an Insta360 X4 camera, you can shoot first, point later—and doing so couldn't be easier. All it requires is a little bit of prep:

  1. Plan: Think about what you want to shoot and where, then decide on your camera placement.
  2. Setup: Set your X4 to Video Mode at 5.7K60fps.
  3. Preview: Check your framing in the Insta360 app.
  4. Capture: Start filming and let X4 capture it all in glorious 360°!

To get the best possible footage, we highly recommend using one of our accessories, such as the Insta360 2-in-1 Invisible Selfie Stick + Tripod. When used as a selfie stick, the AI in our smart cameras will erase it from the photo or video, ensuring nothing is blocking your shot.

How to Capture the Perfect Moment

Now you have your footage, it's time to get the Snapshot! Editing tools have a reputation for being complicated and cumbersome, so we made sure ours is a breeze.

  1. Find the Frame: Connect your camera to your phone, open the Insta360 app and locate the clip in the Album. Find the moment you want to capture, then scroll, zoom-in and -out, and rotate to find the exact image you want.
  2. Capture with Snapshot: Once you've chosen the frame, tap the Edit button (the one that looks like a pencil and paper) and then select Snapshot. Your selection will instantly save to your camera roll, ready for editing or sharing. If you're using an iPhone, you can select Live Snapshot; this saves up to six seconds of video as a live photo, allowing you to choose moments from before and after your selected image.

Snapshot Pro Tips

Snapshot isn't only great for getting highlights, if you tinker a little with the settings, you can truly level up your photos.

  • Choose a High Resolution: Set your camera to the highest resolution for an even sharper, clearer image.
  • Use a Wide Field of View: Switch to a wider FOV for a more cinematic perspective.
  • Apply Filters: Use Color Plus or Clarity Plus in the Insta360 app for enhanced vibrancy.
